Whilst yachting and yacht ownership is an international industry, the majority of contractual arrangements are based on English law and are contracts to which English law, and often English jurisdiction, applies.
The yachting team at Keates Ferris is based in London, Exeter and Newcastle and have a wealth of experience in the yachting and superyacht industries, acting for national and international clients. The team advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters and its client base includes yacht builders, designers, repair and refit yards, individuals purchasing/selling yachts, marina operators, insurers, international banks lending to the national and international markets, charterers, brokers and yacht management and crew agencies.
Keates Ferris are members of a number of trade associations and federations including the British Marine Federation (BMF), Superyacht UK, the Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents and the Honourable Company of Master Mariners. Members of the yachting team provide seminars to marine organisations including the British Marine Federation (BMF), the International Institute of Marine Surveyors (IIMS), and the Maritime Training Academy. Members of the team also lecture on the MCA Master Yachts courses for aspiring superyacht captains as well as various courses for yacht and ship surveyors and courses run by the BMF.
